NT1S - Tyler Schroder

Tyler Schroder, NT1S, joins the VK9XY team as an Amateur Extra class operator near Upper Falls, Maryland. Tyler’s uncle introduced him to ham radio in 2021, and he was hooked! Tyler quickly became a core part of Yale’s W1YU club as a technician, and picked up his general & extra upgrades shortly after. While at Yale, Tyler managed the club’s Earth-Moon-Earth capable station and regularly supported efforts of the ARRL’s collegiate amateur radio program (CARP). This year, Tyler was the CARP student lead at Dayton Hamvention®. 

Today, Tyler handles the money as treasurer for the Vienna Wireless Society (K4XY). He is also a member of the Southeastern DX Club (W4NT) and Potomac Valley Radio Club (W3GRF). Find him on-air from a portable ICOM 703 or via the K4XY remote flex station. VK9XY will mark his first large leap into the contesting and DXpedition world, and is very excited to contribute to the team!

Being a young operator himself, Tyler is passionate about building and welcoming the next generations of ham radio operators. He runs the volunteer examiner teams for his home club K4XY, Youth on the Air Camp, and the Young Amateurs Radio Club WY4RC. He has overseen at least 300 new licensees, with the majority remotely delivered to applicants without nearby in-person testing opportunities. 

Tyler is currently a first-year PhD student studying Data Privacy at Dakota State University, where his amateur radio activities actively support his academic research as a three-time ARDC scholarship winner. Prior to DSU, he attended Yale University (Go Bulldogs!)
