The Pacific Islands DXpedition Group is a Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofit investing in the future of amateur radio.
We build our teams around young operators and put them on the air from the world rare and remote locations—the places on the Most Wanted list that take a year or more to plan. They lead. They run the pileups at three in the morning when the band is long and callers are stacked forty deep. They make the calls that matter, and they own the outcome.
The veterans come to mentor, not to take the chair. What we know took decades—and plenty of long, difficult nights—to learn, and none of it can be taught from a book. It is passed from one operator to another, sitting side by side while a young operator works a run, makes mistakes, adapts, and finally gets it right. That's the entire method. There isn't a shortcut, and we've stopped looking for one.
We do this because someone once did it for us. Someone handed us a microphone before we thought we had earned it and gave us the chance to discover what we were capable of. We intend to pass this hobby to the next generation in better condition than we found it.
Along the way, the impact grows. Our expeditions advance education and research in radio wave propagation and the ionosphere. Planning, leadership, team building, and problem solving are all skills that are learned. We expand access through remote operating technologies, allowing operators who cannot board the plane to be part of the expedition—and enabling a young ham with a laptop and a reliable internet connection to operate one of the world's rare locations from a bedroom half a world away. At the same time, we deliver the contacts that DXers around the globe have spent years—sometimes a lifetime—trying to make.
The rare one goes into the log.
The operator stays on the air for the next fifty years.
That's the return on investment.
